iPad version 2006

Apple, you really should've thought of a better name. I know I cringed when I heard it.

13 ways a Nexus One is better than an iPhone?

Esquire Magazine presents...the 'Augmented Reality' Issue

Augmented Reality makes a special appearance in this month's issue of Esquire. I don't know if this necessarily adds to the value of their publication but I'm not knocking them trying something new.

Google Music

I first caught wind of Google's plan to venture into music several weeks ago but never got any details besides a fabricated screenshot. Now we have an introductory video on how it works as well as the soft launch for it at google.com/music. Sweet. This service will probably do nothing for me at the moment except cut the time from me clicking into other sites hosting the song I'm searching for.

DJ Hero: Cut Out to Win (?)

I give props to the people behind the marketing of DJ Hero - they've definitely got big names to help push the game. In the newest commercial, both Eminem and Jay-Z make guest appearances as they rock a 3D crowd. However, I don't know if a virtual turntable can really overtake the experience of rocking a fake guitar. Maybe because DJing is so accessible these days that it just doesn't seem as appealing to work an imitation when you can actually do it. Either way, it looks like I'm not the only one. Check the commercial below.

Google Music/"Google Audio"

Looks like Google will soon be dipping into the online music game. Rumored to be named "Google Audio," Techcrunch reports that multiple sources have confirmed that Google has spent several weeks securing content from the major music labels for the launch. The new service is a supposed partnership between Google, Lala, Myspace, and iLike. The screenshot featured below is a speculated idea on how the service would look.

It's going to be interesting to see how all of this pans out...I would never want to compete with the Google goliath!

The Gucci App

Ah, yes. It was only a matter of time before luxury apps started rolling in.

Gucci recently released a free app (which can be downloaded in the App store at this very moment) that features a Gucci co-signed "Little Black Book" city guide as well as general news from the red and green powerhouse - lookbooks, fashion shows, etc.

Interestingly, the app also offers a music element: Gucci Beats. Created by Frida Giannini and Mark Ronson, users can mix their own tracks and send it to their friends. I guess they're trying to hit all angles. I don't know. I'm not really feeling the released screenshots; I don't think it's really a good look to have Gucci's name placed in front of a turntable w/ a disappointing font underneath displaying "BEATS." Let's keep it high-end and inaccessible, guys.

40 under 40

Fortune recently released a list of business's "hottest rising stars" under the age of 40. Not surprisingly, 7 out of the top 10 are top dogs at internet companies. Check the full list here (note: you can view the list by age, salary, and future potential).

Pandora: Behind the Genius

NY Times recently put up a great article explaining just how Pandora (otherwise known as "The Music Genome Project") always seems to be on point - think massive amounts of data entry that help connect songs to one another based upon a variety of variables (some typical, some not). Each song is carefully analyzed for up to 20 minutes before its entered into the database.

I have to admit their quality control is pretty amazing (almost OCDish?). I've never had an unpleasant experience on their player and I doubt anybody else has either. I wonder what other areas we could apply this formula of success to? Food? Movies? Email me if you have ideas, Matt@dubfrequency.com (kidding...but kind of not ha!). Hmm...read the full article here.
