Most active VC's of 2009

If you're an aspiring entrepreneur (sorry to use the annoyingly over-used terminology), you might want to cold-call one of these VC firms, sell them on a fancy business plan with a parachute attached to it (that means 'exit strategy' for the uninformed) and hope for a successful IPO. Can you tell if I'm being sarcastic or not? Thank Techcrunch for the info.

Digg takes a dip in traffic... Half the size of twitter

Our resident web guru's favorite (Hov loves to digg) seems to have hit the plateau... traffic has dipped significantly over the past couple of months and it's now registering only about half of what twitter gets. Click here for details.

Thanks to a couple of search engine deals, twitter is profitable...

Good for twitter... At least they figured out some type of a monetization platform for themselves; read more here.

Superglued iPhone App

I just signed up for Superglued as we're heading out to CMJ in NYC next week; looks like a useful tool to have especially if you own an iPhone. I could definitely use something to navigate through all the shows going on during CMJ. Click here for details on Techcrunch.

US internet ad revenue declines by over 5%

According to this article on Techcrunch, the overall US ad revenue on the 'net has dipped from the same period of last year. It's probably a combination of the economy and the uncertainty of online advertisements' effectiveness.

Let's Kill The CPM

If you know a little about media/advertising in general, you know the over-used letters of CPM (Cost Per Mille - which is Thousand in Latin).  And if you've had conversations with me about ads (especially in 'Web 2.0' or anything online related), you know that I've always hated CPM as a viable metric/way to measure anything.  Anyways, there's a very good article on Techcrunch on why we should abolish CPM's; definitely worth reading.

Eric Schmidt resigns from Apple's board...

Google's CEO has officially left his seat on Apple's Board of Directors... After almost 3 years, it's apparent that the gig has many potential conflicts of interest (i.e. iPhone vs Android) so this really isn't a surprise. Click here for details on Techcrunch.

Jobs and Schmidt in their happier days (pause)

Yahoo and Microsoft to finally partner

After a year and a half of negotiation/speculation, Microsoft and Yahoo have signed a 10 year deal where they'll become 'search partners.' Google currently holds 65% market share so let's see if this venture will put a dent... Read the details on techcrunch.

Sprint to buy Virgin Mobile...

Sprint Nextel is taking over Virgin Mobile for $483 million (while paying a 31% premium); details can be found here.

Microsoft changes Laptop Hunter ad (because of Apple?!)

Did Microsoft really cave in and change its ads because Apple was annoyed? If that's really the case, Microsoft just lost again... You don't see Apple changing its ways for anyone (especially Microsoft/PC). Read the techcrunch article here.
