Ghosts of Shopping Past by Brian Ulrich
This one actually really resonates with me. Maybe some of you (or none at all) have noticed a common theme for dF flyers in the past year. Any takers? Well the theme was America, told through icons that we all may pass by or miss everyday, be that american beer, comic books, gas stations or cartoon characters. I have been holding this idea of loosing iconic america close to me, and I seem to be sharing it with Chicago Based Artists/Photographer Brian Ulrich. Ulrich recently completed his project entitled: Ghosts of Shopping Past, which depicts abandonment of shopping through the images of abandoned malls and other American staples like fast food. I'm pretty floored by this project and has to be my favorite photo series of the year.
"I cringe to think we’ll all just be under one giant Costco roof like in the movie Wall-E in the future, though it sometimes it seems quite feasible. Though the internet serves as a much better roof than Costco! "

Interview: Mel D. Cole (Village Slum)
For anybody who's ever gone out in NYC these past several years, Mel D. Cole is definitely a face/name to remember. Always equipped with a camera, Mel has held it down for event photos (which can be seen at Village Slum), going to hell and back for that "perfect" shot. Past subjects included Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, amongst others. Unfortunately for us, the last event Mel shot at w/ dF (Creme de la Creme CMJ) was lost in a damaged memory card but we'll be sure to link up again in a couple months. Anyway, check the video below for a closer look at Mel and how he remains inspired doing what he does best.

Supreme Clothing: Rosa Acosta x Terry Richardson
Is Supreme trying to be...the next Vibe Magazine? Because we all know what happened to Vibe. Not really feeling this shoot.

13th Witness
Since I'm up right now (due to my napping throughout the day as I try to get this cold out the system), I might as well let you know a little more about a talented individual I met during the trip - Timothy McGurr aka 13th Witness.

Tim has been making a name for himself through both his photography and video/editing work, working alongside Nike, Nitro Underground, and other notables. For those of you who watch "Maestro Knows," you might recognize some of Tim's work in the intros. The dF crew recently linked up with him to get some viral content work done for a client as well as getting coverage on our Creme de la Creme event. His eye for tones, compositions, and colors definitely stands out from the pack (peep some examples below). It broods a feeling of darkness that could have only been born in the city.

I'm definitely looking forward to what he comes up with for the projects. Keep an eye out for future collaborations - this will not be the last!

The Heart of the Great Alone Exhibit
When I think of the South Pole, I initially think of that FUBU knockoff brand that they carried @ Ross when in was in 4th grade. However after seeing these photos, I think the words South Pole may conjure up some different imagery. In Edinburgh right now there is an exhibit with pictures of the first South Pole exploration on display. The cool thing is, the pictures are from 1911-1915. The powerful imagery of icebergs and ships is pretty moving, check out some more pics here.

Time-Lapse of LA Fires
If your in LA right now, you definitely know about the insane fires raging (to use a Kid Cudi word) right now. But check out this interesting point of view of the blaze, its a time lapse video that documents the ebb and flow of the smoke clouds. I also like the layer of smog that just never moves.
