GQ men of the year cover(s)

some of you may have seen these already but GQ put out their annual men of the year issue with 4 different covers; we didn't post michael phelps and leonardo dicaprio ones because... well no real reason except that i prefer the barack obama and donald draper aka jon hamm since i'm a fan of both.

gq-barack-obama.jpg

glad to see that phelps listens to my fav. lil wayne song to get pumped up (i'm me) and leo had decent roles in 08 but it's definitely obama's year.... and mad men, of course.

The Basement opens this Saturday, Nov. 22 (official press release)

dubFrequency to open its first retail store in Echo Park (Los Angeles, CA)

Los Angeles, CA (Nov. 18) - dubFrequency, a multi-faceted marketing agency based in Los Angeles, is opening its much anticipated retail project titled The Basement in Echo Park (1832 W. Sunset Blvd.) on Saturday, November 22. The store is a unique concept in that while debuting several dubFrequency collaborative items such as the dF x Estate LA fitted cap, Creme de la Creme Zune player and custom dF x Knight Bike Co. 24" cruisers, a majority of the featured products will be from Reason out of New York and Homeroom Clothing from San Francisco. Both are highly regarded fashion brands with tremendous growth potential and with dubFrequency's success in showcasing the finest talent in music, it is fitting that the two companies have formed a partnership with dF & The Basement.

"dubFrequency has played an integral role in building the Reason brand throughout the U.S. As long as dF continues to keep their figurative hand on the pulse of youth culture we will support their every endeavor. We are proud to be involved in dubFrequency's new pop up store in Echo park and look forward to working with them on bigger projects for years to come," states Phil Basis of Reason. Over the past couple of years, dF and Reason have worked together on several buzz-worthy events in New York so the retail partnership is a natural progression of the working relationship.

While Reason represents the culture and lifestyle of NYC, Homeroom stands out as a quintessential SF clothing line that shares similar aesthetics in concept and design. "The combination of like minded individuals that were raised thousands of miles apart is more than enough for us to move forward with what we're passionate about, in a location that reminds us of home," says Alex Valdman from Homeroom Clothing who lists Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco as fans of their apparel/accessories.

"We're taking on this project as just another form of partnerships we're accustomed to building," notes Jesse Lee of dubFrequency. "dF is not a fashion brand, record label or a traditional marketing company; we are a group of creative minds who like to support artists, musicians, designers, products and brands that we truly believe in." The Basement in Echo Park will officially open this Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 pm.

Diamond Supply Co. x In4mation x Gravis Travelers Bag

in4diamondbag3.jpg

For those who need to re-up on their traveling gear, don't sleep on the upcoming release w/ the homey Nick in collaboration w/ In4mation & Gravis. Though I've never personally used a Gravis bag, I know Jesse relies on his when he's letting the Gucci rest.

The colorway (tiffany!) is a throwback to the sneaker days when my crew at school and I used to get geeked off of swooshes & laces. Too bad I exchanged those puppies for cash before dunks became a sign of...well, you know what I'm about to say.

The bag will be released Thursday, November 20th at the Diamond Supply Co. Flagship store, Diamond Supply Co. Online, In4mation, and In4mation Online.

Fixed Gear Starter Kit

Once you've picked up your fixed gear, you have your skin tight jeans rolled up to your knees and American Apparel deep v-neck dawned, you might notice you still need 2 more things: a bandana and a 70's pornstar mustache. Well, Avril Loreti's new bandana designs kill 2 birds with one stone. Pick one of these bad-boys up and you will be an instant hit as a bike messenger.

Happy trails!

Damon Dash: The Moment of Truth

It looks like former CEO and co-founder of the once esteemed Roc-A-Fella Records is facing some challenges as he's attacked with one lawsuit after another (read about it here). Everything from his condos in Tribeca to his Chevrolet Tahoe are being sought after...it's so bad that even his lawyer dropped him for not paying his legal bills!

Despite those troubles, I hope Dash pulls through. I was never the type to take joy in anyone's downfall, no matter the situation. There were definitely some mistakes he made throughout his career as a mogul, but one thing Jesse always pounded in my head was to learn from my mistakes and never have it happen twice.

damon dash.jpg

For Dash, his best option might be to stick to what he started with: music. He's made the right move by staying close with Jim Jones (king of adlibs - "stay sky high *TWISTED* fly with the stars *TWINKLE TWINKLE*") as his new album apparently got that fire (so I hear from Chuck Inglish). The lead single, "Pop Champagne," is already a dF favorite and apparently all of NYC's as well.

Other than that, maybe he should just drive like a madman around the city in a Wrangler bumpin' classic Roc-A-Fella joints in hopes of getting some Youtube love. Or start a reality show. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised by a comeback. Here's to the roc!

hollywood holt x million $ mano on hardknock tv...

our homies nigel and mano set the record straight on any punters out there who might label them and their music/scene as 'hipster rap.' teach the ignorant folks who don't know... as a matter of fact, it's cool that the "hiphop" magazines still don't get it and are finally at least trying to get it (that XXL cover is still garbage/late if you ask me though).

anyways, this is why music is an important medium for pop culture, marketing and every day life; forget the genres, labels and classifications on everything.... do what you want to do!

This sweatshirt has a special pocket for your beer. Now i don't have to reach all the way over to the cup-holder when I'm watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. "Hey Nike!!" Gotta get a loopwheeler version of this hoodie!

Samsonite Black Label Collection

Alexander McQueen and Samsonite combine to create some pretty interesting luggage articles for their Black Label Collection. To be honest, there is no way your gonna catch me in LAX with one of these, but i definitely respect Samsonite thinking outside the box on this one.
