red hot chilli peppers at the roxy.... (11/13/06)

unless you were heath ledger or david blaine (and i'm sure i'm forgetting a few other "celebs"), you needed the exclusive invite from microsft zune to attend the secret show at the roxy. red hot chilli peppers happen to be one of my favorite bands of all time and it definitely was one of the BEST shows i've ever been to.
big thanks to microsoft for the vip hook up... free liquor and food all night (pizza, fries and cheesesticks haha) + a dope show.

here are some photos from the evening

let's talk dipset... where's killa cam?!

everyone knows we roll with dipset no matter what but also wanted to point out some factual and subjective info on them dudes.

so if you're up on your shit, you may have noticed that the don of the set himself cam'ron has been missing in action for forever it seems. first he "showed up" and then took off in a white minivan at our urb may cover shoot (this is back in march) what was suppose to be a cam, jim jones and juelz santana cover ended up as juelz, jim and dukedagod (main a&r/mixtape king at diplomats). cam was about to drop an album so it was weird that he avoided getting down for a cover.

so the album drops but there's no press, tv appearances, shows, release parties, NOTHING (record still debuted at #2 which was solid). nothing to follow the relatively strong debut considering the climate of the cd sales....

now it's the capo's turn so mr jones himself has been runnin around doing press, shows, and just gettin him and dipset out there. obviously dude scored the hit of the year with BAAALIN' and even got under jay-z's skin (take that hov) so we see that jim is doing his thing. while juelz has been out in the public supporting jim's album (from BET hiphop awards to 106 n park to the album release party in NY), no one's been able to spot camron at any of these functions.

hmmm. we know cam and jim are homies for life since childhood... we know he's behind the capo 100%. we just get the feeling that cam's still on some r kelly - paranoid as fuck - stay in my crib tip. again cam didn't do any press for his own album.... now missing out on his homie jimmy doin it big??

this shit is reminiscent of some godfather story line. the don gets a hit on him... gets shot a few times and survives the hit... while the young in charge (juelz) makes his mark, capo waits his turn and how dude's runnin wild takin over the game ?!

we certainly hope that jimmy doesn't try to end (we don't mean literally by the way) the boss' reign cuz cam'ron is still one of the illest/funniest/most clever rapper out there. however, this story is only getting better as even jay-z is about to get shook by the one eyed capo status himself.

kingdom come? nah... kingdome done homie...

we still baaallin!!!

jim jones vs jay z

couple of things went down this week... jay-z responded to the jabs by doing his version of "we fly high" at the 40/40 club on weds. google that shit online so you can hear it for yourself.

and then, CLICK HERE to read what jim jones has to say bout the whole situation.... good read!!

couple of pieces from that bill simmons article...

had to put this up separately.... too fuckin funny

1. The New Rat Pack
Sports Illustrated's fawning, masturbatory puff piece/cover story/PR release about LeBron, Carmelo and Wade was good for one thing: the revelation that those three young players have formed a hangout group called "Our Family" with Chris Paul and Joe Johnson. Apparently they hang out and stuff. And I can see how Paul gets an invite, but Joe Johnson? Joe Johnson??? Who invited him? More importantly, if this were the Rat Pack, LeBron is Sinatra (the leader), Wade is Dean Martin (coolest guy on the group), Joe Johnson is Peter Lawford (in other words, why is he even here?), and maybe you could even talk me into 'Melo being Sammy Davis Jr. But Chris Paul as Joey Bishop??? I'm not seeing it. They may need to replace him with Jalen Rose.

SIX GUYS WHO LOOK SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE THAN THEY DID LAST SEASON

1. Bruce Bowen
Stick a fork in him. This is a significant problem for the Spurs, by the way -- they don't have anyone to cover the Gilbert Arenas and Corey Maggettes of the world right now. Why wouldn't they deal Brent Barry (his contract expires in 2008) and Eric Williams (his contract expires in 2007) and take the Completely Insane Stephen Jackson off Indy's hands? They already won one title with him, right?

2. C-Webb
Currently in the "Kathleen Turner when she was playing Chandler's transsexual dad on 'Friends'" stage of his career.

3. Boris Diaw
Some actual quotes from Boris' training regimen this summer as his agent hammered out his long-term deal with the Suns: "I already had ice cream today, but screw it -- I could go for a chocolate shake if you're going to Baskin Robbins." ... "Damn, I keep forgetting to get my exercise bike fixed!" ... "Trust me, you have NOT lived until you've had these donuts." ... "Hey, if you see Steve Nash, could you not tell him that I threw up when we were playing three-on-three today?" ... "Also, when you go to our practice facility, can you tell our equipment manager that I'm a 38-waist now?"

4. Channing Frye
Starting to look more than a little Loren Woodsy.

5. Manu Ginobili
Any time a guy loses two steps and develops a bald spot, that's usually a sign that he's on his way out of the league soon. We're sure he's only 28 and not 35, right?

6. Larry Bird
Can we get him a gift certificate to a spa? What about 10 free trips to a tanning salon? I'm worried about The Legend. He's never been the same since the Artest Melee.
